I love being a mom!! It is usually a joy, sometimes frustrating, and it gives me even more opportunities to pronounce preferences/opinions with conviction, only to be proven wrong.
Pacifiers, the little plugs I swore “I’d never,” are in full rotation here. We even have a pacifier with a dragon toy on the end! And I love it. I love watching my little girl manipulate the toy and sometimes, with a lot of effort and a bit of luck, she can put the pacifier back in her own mouth. This was also the first toy she grabbed, so I’m obsessed with it!
Co-sleeping? Um, do I look like a hippie? I must, because we did. This week we are transitioning to sleeping in the crib in her room. So far, the “transition” has resulted in the baby sleeping in the crib just fine while I try to fall asleep without my little girl beside me. This is a pic of the baby “adjusting” (not shown – a hippie mom tossing and turning):
But of all the “That won’t happen to us!” squawking I did, I NEVER thought I’d be wrong on this. I wrote a snarky post last year (read Judging Books By Their Covers here) about all of the white babies on the covers of baby books. On behalf of our future brown baby, we were offended by the implication that all babies are white. I wrote sarcastically:
So if I am to judge books by their covers (admittedly, at a seriously picked-over out-of-business sale), it looks like my baby will be white…
Well, guess what? She is! I’m going to print this out so I can eat my words.

If I had a quarter for all of the times I said “I’ll never…” I’d be a wealthy woman. She is so unbelievably CUTE! I can’t decide if she looks more like you or her da-da.
I love your “white baby” tag!
Her cuteness changes daily! The day that last picture was taken she looked like her dad all day long. And I loved it! Yesterday she looked more like me again. And her dad loved it! She can’t make up her mind. She gets that from her mom and dad.
Thanks for appreciating the tag! The things that are funny to me when I am sleep-deprived… sheesh!
My kids change often, too. Currently, the Padawan looks so much like me. Husband took a picture of him, and if I hadn’t known it was him, I’d have thought it was me.
She is such a beauty! Total cutie pie.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying mommyhood.
And that dragon is too adorable. It’s perfect!
Thanks so much, Audrey. Mommyhood is great!
Awwww! I know what you mean about the pacifiers. I WISHED my kids would take them, but only Baby Girl did, and not even for very long. >.<
I got desperate during some crazy 3-week long growth spurt. On top of nursing constantly, she was using me as a pacifier. So out of desperation, I sent Patrick to Target to get some. She snubbed her nose at first and I was secretly proud of her. But it didn’t last. Even still, some days she is addicted to the paci, others she isn’t interested.
my kids hated pacifiers and I wish they liked them to be honest. I remember my younger daughter had to get an ultrasound and an MRI at 4 mos and 8mos and they kept asking where her pacifier was because she kept crying and crying. I had one but she hated it so it was no help. lol. She is so beautiful!!!
I think you should be proud they didn’t take pacifiers. There is a reason they are called “dummies” across the pond. Smart kids know better!
That is one cute baby. It makes me want another baby, that’s how cute your baby is.
I’d offer you this one, but we’ve had a few good days in a row, so I’m thinking about keeping her.
Girls tend to look like their daddies…it’s a good thing Patrick is so pretty!
Ha! He is a pretty girl!
She is so damn cute. I demand a 2013 post so we can see the cuteness continue to unfold.
